Activities to do with the song "What a feeling" by Irene Cara.

In today's post I will suggest activities to do at home related with the song "What a feeling" performed by Irene Cara and used in the film "Flashdance", released in 1983. It is a song with an extremely strong and powerful melody that awakes your desire to dance all the day and with lyrics which encourage you to pursue your own dreams and strive, constantly, to achieve them. It could, perfectly, be used to develop knowledge and comprehension activities of the language, but in relation to the topic that concern us in this section, which are emotional education and education in values; this song is really appropriate in order to work on the following aspects, in terms of emotional education: awareness of your emotions, naming your wn emotions, become aware of the interaction between emotion, cognition and behaviour, skills to generate positive emotions by youself, self-motivation, positive attitude, resilience and flow. And regarding education in values, this song could e useful to promote the value of  perseverance and hard-working in order to achieve their own dreams.

Here you have five activity proposals to do with children from 3 to 12 years old which integrate  artístic disciplines such as: dancing, theatre, cinema and literature. Most of these activities are for the family enjoyment, but there is also an individual one.

  1. We dance with Just Dance (From 7 years old) (Family activity). You can search the YouTube vídeo  for Just Dance 2014- What a feeling on YouTube and follow it all together, having your party at home.
  2. When I will be older... (From 5 years) (Family activity). From the versese "What a feeling , beings believing, I can have it all, now I'm dancing for my life" you can play with the children to imitate different jobs and professions in order to divine them. And when it will be their turn, ask them to do what they want to be when they will grow up.
  3. We let ourselves go (From 3 years old) (Family activity). Starting from the stanza "Well, I hear the music , close my eyes. Fell the rhythm wrap around, take a hold on my heart", you can listen to the song and move as you want, as the body and the music ask you to do.
  4. Stars of mythical scenes (From 7 years old) (Family activity). This song appears at the end of the movie "Flashdance". After watching the film, you can select a scene that you like and performance it at home, in your own way, and record it as if it was a homemade short film.
  5. What I like to do the most in the world (From 8 years old) (Individual activity). From the verses: "Take your passion, and make it happen. Pictures come alive, you can dance right, through your life", think about something that you really like to do, that you are passionate about. And then mrke a written description of how do you see yourself when you are doing it: if you do, fell alive, fun , free, or if you lokk handsome, clowny, like a rock star...
You could also, do some activities from stanzas: "First when there's nothing, but a slow glowing dream, that your fear seems to hide, deep inside your mind" and "All alone I have cried, silent tears full of pride, in a world made of steel made of stone".

These are five activities which I propose to you today. But as I always tell you , you can let your imagination run freely and create whatever you want.
